Quick safety groups
Use these groups to separate plain cooked options from raw, fatty, processed, or bone-related risks.
Bones, raw meat, and seasoning are the big risks
Cooked bones, raw meat, onion or garlic seasoning, fried food, salty processed meat, and spoiled leftovers deserve caution or professional guidance.
Review toxic foodsMeat and seafood risk notes
Serve only plain cooked boneless pieces when the food is appropriate.
Avoid cooked bones, fish bones, shells, skin, heavy fat, breading, and rich sauces.
Raw meat and raw fish can carry bacterial or parasite risk.
Processed meats often bring salt, fat, garlic, onion, smoke flavor, or preservatives.
Usually OK in small amounts
Plain, appropriate portions are the main rule.
SMALL AMOUNT Keep Shrimp to a small occasional amount, adjusted for your dog's size and normal diet.
HamSMALL AMOUNT Avoid feeding ham intentionally. If a dog gets a tiny plain piece, monitor for stomach upset, but do not offer ham to dogs with pancreatitis risk, sodium restrictions, kidney or heart disease, or weight concerns.
PorkSMALL AMOUNT For a small dog, use one tiny lean bite; for a large dog, one or two small lean bites occasionally is conservative. Do not feed pork daily, and avoid it for dogs with pancreatitis history, fat restrictions, or weight-control plans unless your veterinarian approves.
SalmonSMALL AMOUNT Offer a few small flakes for a small dog or a modest boneless portion for a large dog, no more than occasionally. Salmon is calorie-dense, so it should not displace a balanced meal or become a daily extra.
TunaSMALL AMOUNT For a small dog, offer only a teaspoon or less; for a large dog, a tablespoon-sized amount occasionally is conservative. Do not feed tuna daily or as a main diet protein unless your veterinarian specifically recommends it.
TurkeySMALL AMOUNT A small dog should get one tiny lean bite; a large dog may tolerate a few small lean pieces occasionally. Do not feed turkey daily, and avoid fatty skin, processed turkey, and rich leftovers for dogs with pancreatitis, salt restrictions, or sensitive stomachs.
